The exciting news is that the first trimester is almost over, and you should slowly start feeling a bit more human again as some of the first trimester symptoms begin to lift. Reduced nausea and fatigue will hopefully be replaced with renewed energy. Your little cherub is busy kicking and stretching in the womb, and now their tiny hands will be able to open and close into fists. Tiny tooth buds are also beginning to develop under their gums.
Your Baby
Your baby is about the size of a lime, and weighs around 7 grams and is around 4cm long (which is about the length of your thumb from knuckle to tip). Their little head is equal in size to their body and the webbed feet and hands have disappeared to display beautiful fingers and toes. Hair follicles have also started forming on the crown as well as nail beds and their ears have moved into position. Your baby’s body is also starting to straighten out a bit, and beginning to lengthen. Their skin is still see-through, but they’re definitely looking more like a little baby.
Your Body
Most women begin to feel a little better as they near the end of the first trimester, but some women may still be feeling the first trimester symptoms such as fatigue, nausea, gas, constipation and mood swings. Don’t worry, it should hopefully all be over soon. If you’re feeling better, you might start to feel hungrier throughout the day. It’s your body’s way of gearing up to help nourish you and your baby. Although it’s fine to give into some cravings, try and make healthy choices that’ll benefit both you and the baby. Whilst some symptoms may be subsiding, others may be appearing. For instance, you may be experiencing leg cramps, which can strike at night and mess with your much needed sleep.
Sensible Tips
- If you have not thought about a way to break the news to family and friends, now would be a good time to think about the announcement.
- If you’re feeling up to it, why don’t you treat yourself to some retail therapy and stock up on some maternity clothes. We suggest buying one or two bra’s that fit comfortably and a few items of clothing that wont leave marks in your skin at the end of a long working day. Don’t go too crazy though, your body still has lots of growing to do.
