Frequently Asked Questions
How much milk does each bag hold?
Each Snookums Breast Milk Storage Bag can safely hold up to 250 ml of expressed breast milk.
How long can I store expressed breast milk?
See the Breast Milk Storage Guide below for safe storage times:
Room temperature (19–20 °C): 4–6 hours
Cooler with frozen ice packs: 24 hours
Refrigerator (4 °C): 3–8 days
Freezer (−18 °C): 6–12 months
Thawed milk: Use within 24 hours
How do I thaw / defrost frozen breast milk?
Thaw in the refrigerator overnight or place the sealed bag in warm (not hot) water.
Do not refreeze thawed milk; once thawed, it must be used within 24 hours.
Never thaw in microwave or boiling water.
Gently swirl (don’t shake) to mix separated layers before feeding.
Can I heat breast milk directly in the bag?
Yes, but only with care. Use safe warming by placing the sealed bag in a bowl of warm water or by using a bottle warmer with a bag holder insert, if available. Avoid direct contact of the bag with high-heat elements or microwaves. Always test the milk temperature before feeding by placing a few drops on your wrist.
Should I store the bags upright or flat?
While milk is still liquid and before the bag has frozen solid, pressure on the seal (for example, if a bag is laid flat with air bubbles inside) can sometimes cause seepage if the seal isn’t perfectly pressed. Storing upright initially helps the milk settle and freeze in place, reducing stress on the seal. Once frozen, parents can safely lay bags flat for space-saving freezer storage.
Can I reuse breast milk storage bags?
No. For hygiene and safety, Snookums Breast Milk Storage Bags are single-use only.
Are the bags leakproof?
Yes — each bag has a double zip seal and sturdy sides to reduce spills.
